The composer is of Russian-Tatar origin. Openness to Western and Eastern traditions, deep spirituality and a conscious turning to the Christian faith are the guiding principles of her life and work. For her, music and religion are inseparable. Along with Dimitri Shostakovich, Alfred Schnittke and Edison Denissow, she is one of Russia's leading composers.
