Jean Rivier (1896–1987)
Oiseaux tendres
Jean Rivier was a French composer. His father, who was a pharmacist, was an excellent amateur flautist. Jean Rivier first studied philosophy. Subsequently, and after a long period of recovery as a result of the gas attacks to which he was exposed during the First World War, he studied at the Paris Conservatoire from 1922. He was involved in the "Groupe de Triton" together with Pierre-Octave Ferroud, Henry Barraud and Emmanuel Bondeville.
He has written many works for the flute. "Oiseaux tendres" is an expressive solo piece that combines virtuosity with lyricism and gentleness. A naturalistic and artistic representation of the bird world.
