Moderato e cantabile
Petr Eben is one of the most famous Czech composer of the 20th Century. From early childhood, he played piano, organ and cello. After his music studies, he worked as a composer, pianist, organist and improviser. From 1955 he taught at the Department of Musicology at the Charles University in Prague and from the late nineties at the Music Academy of Prague. Vocal and organ music influenced his artistic work. In addition to sacred music he was also very close to Czech folk music.
The Moderato e cantabile is the second movement of the Sonatina semplice, composed in 1955.
