Peter Mieg studied art and music history, German literature and archaeology at the Universities of Zurich, Basel and Paris. He also took piano lessons from Emil Frey and composition lessons with Frank Martin. Peter Mieg worked as an art critic, painter and writer. From 1950 he devoted himself mainly to composition. He is inspired by the composers Darius Milhaud, Francis Poulenc, Eric Satie, Béla Bartók and Igor Stravinsky. The flute and piano are his favourite instruments.
